Introducing Nate Shillingford, a shining example of how academics and sports can work synergistically to produce well-rounded student-athletes on the ascent to a successful future!
Nate attends Putnam Valley Middle School in Putnam Valley NY and carries an impressive overall average of 97! He is able to balance his school and basketball activities by simply prioritizing his time. Nate says that he faithfully devotes two hours of time every day after school to studying and completing his homework which leaves the remaining of the day for basketball practice. It is no wonder that his favorite subject is Mathematics as clearly seen by his efficient division of time.
Away from basketball and schoolwork, Nate says he enjoys relaxing and listening to Hip Hop music to pass the time. In addition to playing AAU basketball for the 2026 Riverside Hawks, he also plays JV for his school team and has played football for several years growing up.
In speaking with this well-spoken young man, it was clear that he is goal-oriented, dedicated and has his eyes on a successful future. Nate stated that he considers the late great Kobe Bryant as his role model, because of his strong work ethic and determined mindset. He carries this philosophy over into both his schoolwork and academia. "I'm inspired to do well in school in order to open up opportunities for me in basketball"
Nate's academic goals are to maintain his "A" average and to eventually be able to attend Duke University and to play for the Duke Blue Devils. Ultimately, he wants to make it into the NBA in order to provide for his family and future generations. Nate expressed his sincere gratitude to his parents and Coaches for the time they have dedicated toward his progression and for the personal sacrifices they have made and continue to make for him.
With his strong work ethic both on and off the court and the continued support of his family and Coach, this young man is sure to have a very bright future indeed. Good luck Nate!!!
